Questions to Ask When Considering a 4WD Hire

Hiring or renting a 4WD can be a great choice for when you're on vacation and want to head off road, either to the beach or a remote campground, along mountains or through the outback. A 4WD can mean better traction and less chance of getting stuck in those driving conditions and can also offer you more storage space for your camping gear and other equipment. Note a few questions to ask about renting a 4WD before you make your reservation so you know it's the right choice for you and don't face any unexpected fees or other surprises.

1. Ask if you can tow with the vehicle

A 4WD can often have a roof rack or rack on the back for bikes and other equipment, but don't assume you can easily tow a trailer with it. The 4WD you hire might not have a tow hitch, and trying to add your own can be a violation of the rental agreement. If you are allowed to tow something with the 4WD, be sure you ask about weight limits so you don't get the vehicle bogged down by being overweight or put added stress on the engine and other parts.

2. Ask about requirements for the driver's license

Rarely do you need anything other than a standard driver's license to hire a 4WD, but ask if drivers need to be a particular age, as rental agencies may require them to be at least 18 years old if not even 21 or older. A rental agency may also require an international driver's license or at least one in English for travelers coming from other countries. If you're looking to visit a foreign country and rent a 4WD, it's good to ask about these requirements in advance so you can get a copy of your license in English or get an international license, or whatever is required, before you leave for your trip.

3. Ask about restrictions for off-roading

A 4WD may be allowed on the beach or marked paths up mountains and in forests, but there may be restrictions as to how far you can take it from an actual road, beach, and the like. There may also be restrictions as to taking it on certain roadways in particular; if certain roads or routes are considered dangerous or just too far from established cities and service stations, a rental agency may not want their vehicles to be put at risk, so those roads and routes may be off limits completely.

For more information, contact a local 4WD hire company.

About Me

Auto Electrical Faults

Yo! Welcome to my new blog. My name is Tim and I live in downtown Brisbane with my friends. I recently left school and got a job which allowed me to save up for my very first car. Man, I love it. I have always dreamt of owning a car. I didn't have lots of cash so I had to buy a pretty cheap car. Because my car is so old, it has had one or two problems. The biggest issue was with the electrical system. The windows wouldn't open, the headlights were dim and sometimes the car wouldn't start. Thankfully, I found a great auto service company who fixed all the problems for me. I learnt a lot from the mechanics there so I decided to start this blog.
